Windemere is a new “urban centre” in southwest Edmonton, east of the North Saskatchewan River and south of Anthony Henday Drive. Development began in the late 2000s and is still in progress.
Homes in Windermere are very desirable and are valued at the higher price points. Real estate options include a variety of housing types, densities and designs including executive custom-built homes on large lots as well as contemporary townhouses and condos.
The neighbourhood focal point is called The Currents of Windermere, a commercial centre with a VIP Cineplex Odeon, grocery stores, big box retailers, restaurants, salons, pet stores and more. Throughout the community there are lush parks, extensive pathways, two elementary schools, and a recreational centre. Additionally there are three golf courses within the area: River Ridge Golf Course, Jager Ridge and Windermere Golf and Country Club, a private golf course.
The name Windermere is perfectly suiting for this neighbourhood that overlooks the River Valley. The word “winder” means “to take one’s breath away” and “mere” refers to the boundary of an area or significant landmark.
Residents of Windermere have access to many services while being surrounded by the natural beauty of the North Saskatchewan River and Whitemud Creek Ravine.
